Data

Where'd My Data Go?

Data has recently been removed from many U.S. federal government websites. Most of this data is still available from other data archives that are not part of the federal government. If the data that you need can no longer be found on its former U.S. federal government website, please try the following:

  • Check the Data Rescue Project Portal. This site provides a well-organized catalog of federal government data that has been downloaded and preserved by other organizations.
  • Check The Wayback Machine. This site is excellent for data that was made available via bulk file downloads, but it does not archive data that was only available via an interactive GUI.
  • IPUMS has microdata from many U.S. federal government surveys.

If you can't find the data you're looking for via any of these sources, please contact Julia Bauder, who may be able to help you access it via other methods.

Geographic and Qualitative Data

This guide contains links to sources of quantitative data.

Sources for qualitative data can be found on their respective subject guides, when such sources exist for that subject.

Sources for GIS data can be found on the GIS Data and Maps guide.
