A class guide for the tutorial class "Food for Thought"

How Librarians can help

The Grinnell Librarians and Library staff are passionate about helping students find the best resources for their school work, research and personal use. We are more than happy to help students in lots of ways, including

  • identifying helpful databases
  • suggesting different search terms
  • assisting in structuring queries
  • locating hard-to-find resources
  • Adding requested resources to our collection
  • brainstorming research strategies for an assignment
  • navigating the process of searching for foreign language materials
  • providing advice on how to evaluate sources
  • finding non-scholarly sources that may help your research
  • connecting researchers with other campus resources to complete other aspects of an assignment

and much more!

Library Labs

Library Labs

A library lab is a research consultation, an opportunity for a student or a small group of students to meet with a librarian and discuss an academic research project. Soon after you submit a lab request, a librarian will contact you to set up a day and time to meet. During this meeting, the librarian will teach you useful research skills and strategies, such as how to identify and use relevant print and electronic resources. Whenever you have a challenging research question or problem, that’s the time to request a library lab.
