Tutorial: Food Stories

A class guide for the tutorial class "Food for Thought"

What is a Citation Manager?

Citation Managers can...

  • Prevent losing resources due to expired links
  • Save citations that are either manually entered or collected using a browser extenstion (Zotero) or by uploading citations that were downloaded as a RIS file.
  • Organize citations based on project or topic
  • Automatically create bibliographies and in-text citations in accordance to different citation styles like APA or MLA, as well as easily change the format of the citation depending on user's needs
  • Store PDFs, annotations, highlights, and notes for long-term use
  • Facilitate collaboration with shared collections that sync collaborator's resources and annotations

Comparing Citation Managers

There are several citation managers to choose from and they each have different features. For an in-depth guide to comparing citation managers, please see the University of Maryland's guide "Citation Managers: Which citation manager is right for me?"

Zotero is free to use and has several useful features such as a browser extension for quick citation collecting and shared libraries for collaboration. See the instructions and documentation for downloading and using Zotero at Zotero.org
