LIbrary Outreach

New Outreach Documentation

Outreach Cluster Vision Revised 2023:

Outreach Services works to engage the students, faculty, and staff of Grinnell College and the Grinnell community with library resources and services by:

  1. Developing and sponsoring library events in partnership with academic departments, centers, programs and institutes to promote the scholarly and creative accomplishments of Grinnell’s faculty, students and staff.

  2. Creating and connecting to content for the Libraries’ social media and, in collaboration with Communications, our web site’s news items.
  3.  Nurturing co-curricular learning in partnership with campus colleagues and students  through activities such as study breaks and students displays.

   4. Promoting new databases, research tools, collections and library staff members and sharing developments within academic librarianship and academia of interest to the greater Grinnell community.

Outreach Cluster Goals, next 3-5 years:

Based on an updated list of faculty and staff publications, collaborate with academic departments to co-sponsor faculty book talks and topical or themed panels highlighting faculty scholarship and creative work (Vision #1).

Work with campus offices and student organizations to develop library events showcasing student scholarship and creative work (Vision #1).

Periodically assess the impact of the Libraries’ social media outreach and consider appropriate changes (Vision #3).

Continue to learn from and explore collaborations with other campus
academic support services such as DASIL, Writing Lab and Academic
 Advising, for instance (Vision #4).

Be consistent and thorough in bringing new library resources and services to the attention of the entire campus community by means of, for instance, social media; posters in the library, on our web site and around campus; consulting librarians reaching out to faculty members; book and media displays, etc.  And continue to explore new ways to improve this work (Vision #5).

Work with other clusters to identify library projects and services that
should be promoted to the campus community: CI-CCI; digital scholarship and open access; Break Open the Vault and similar events; student employees, past and present; consortial database subscriptions or initiatives, for instance (Vision #5).
