Finding Film Reviews

There are several strategies you can use to locate film reviews:

Search the film title in Primo, our library's catalog. You can then narrow results to Material Type > Reviews using the filters on the left hand side of the page.
Many film reviews are published in magazines and newspapers. Some databases that include magazines likely to publish film review include those listed below.
When searching the open web, be sure to evaluate the publisher of reviews that you find. Some web-only publications might be fine resources for gauging a certain critic's or audience's reaction. Others may be providing interchangeable quick blurbs about films, and you should seek out sources of more substantial analysis.

This database enables users to search and access current U.S. news content, as well as archives that stretch back into the 1980s. It features top newspapers, wires, broadcast transcripts, blogs, podcasts, and digital-only websites in full-text format. Titles include the Des Moines Register, New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, Boston Globe, Chicago Tribune, Newsday, and numerous other regional and local Gannett titles. Content is updated daily and cross-searchable on the ProQuest platform.

Provides access to a wide range of full-text content for news, business, legal, and reference information. Particularly strong in legislative, government, corporate, financial, and demographic information, as well as market research and industry reports.
New York Times Historical (1851–2015) This link opens in a new window
Complete online access (including advertisements) to the full text of the New York Times from 1851 to 2015. For current access, see U.S. Newsstream, LexisNexis Academic, and other sources, or go to the New York Times Subject Guide for instructions on registering for a free account.

1970–present. The largest single periodical resource available, bringing together dozens of full-text databases across all major subject areas, including Business, Education, Health and Medical, Humanities, Science and Technology, and the Social Sciences.
