Tips and resources for how to get the most out of SciFinder-n for CHEM 222 Lab and beyond.

NEW: SciFinder's AI-enabled Search

SciFinder's proprietary AI feature interprets natural language search queries and summarizes results. This new search supports queries containing substance names, CAS RNs, molecular formulas, substance classes, and functional groups to identify reaction participants. The AI is trained with CAS data and is not generating data; all results presented are CAS content. User data and search queries are not shared with third parties.

This guide has not been completely updated to reflect this new search but will be in the coming months. Please note that you can change your account settings to revert to the old search interface by turning on "Search Types":

Search Types toggled to "on"

What is SciFinder-n?

SciFinder-n is a product of Chemical Abstracts (CAS), a division of the American Chemical Society (ACS) that organizes chemical information and research. The SciFinder database is a core research tool that allows you to explore the chemistry literature and locate information about chemical substances, such as structure, name, regulatory information, properties, and more.
