Especially if you are working on a large research project, citation managers can:
- Prevent losing resources due to expired links
- Save and organize citations based on a project or topic
- Automatically create bibliographies and in-text citations in accordance to different citation styles, as well as easily change the format of the citation depending on user's needs
- Store PDFs, annotations, highlights, and notes for long-term use
- Facilitate collaboration with shared collections that sync collaborators' resources and annotations
There are many citation managers to choose from, including Zotero (free) and Refworks (available through Grinnell College subscription - does not expire after you graduate). If you are headed to medical school, you may also consider EndNote Basic (free web version).
