ECLA--the Spanish acronym is CEPAL--was established in 1948 and undertakes studies and research to: promote economic and social development through regional and subregional cooperation and integration; and to gather, organize, interpret and disseminate information and data relating to the economic and social development of the region.

An annual public opinion survey that involves some 20,000 interviews in 18 Latin American countries, representing more than 600 million inhabitants.
